From the Principal's Desk
by Ryan Reed

Thanksgiving always marks a milestone in the school year as we move past the hectic startup routines of school and into a long season till Christmas.

As a principal, I'm thankful for a wonderful community to come to work to everyday. I was reminded of this through the many conversations had on our Professional Learning day. Staff are committed to seeing kids they work with find success.
We all know that success is relative to each individual, but increasing the probability of success through decisions that put students needs at the forefront is important work. As a staff, we are committed to this work.

Thank you for partnering with us to see students at Bert Church High School have the opportunity to realize their potential. We have great people here and for that I am thankful.

Have a great Thanksgiving weekend,

Ryan

Students in Photography 10 explored the use of balance in their photos. Stunning images emerge when kids thoughtfully implement what they're learning. Thanks for sharing Mr. Crawley.
Our halls are filled with more student art as our gr. 9 students are showcasing their still life work.
Our Science folks were once again getting their hands dirty with lab work this week. Science 14 changed pennies to gold, Chemistry 30 was doing redox titration, and Science 9 was working with density. Thanks to all for sharing your learning!
Project Jack and Jill is a tremendous local story of giving back to the community. If you know of a grad in 2020 who could benefit from this, please follow the link to their homepage. Thanks to Mike and Lori for their work making Airdrie a better place for teens!

After a gutsy 21-13 win over Springbank last Friday, the football team moved to 5-0 in league play, setting up a huge tilt with undefeated Cochrane today at 4:00 PM at Ed Eggerer!

But being part of the football team is not just about playing games. The kids took in the battle of Alberta, university football style, at the U of C/U of A football game. A great team building activity.
Physics 20 took their learning to the hallways while studying projectile motion. High school kids getting to play with kids toys is always fun!
Sports Performance 20/30 sees students explore the many different aspects of physical fitness. We appreciate our students being able to access Genesis for this class to explore Yoga!
This year the Mechanics Training Centre is joining with our community partner Cam Clark Ford in the “WE Scare Hunger” campaign to fight hunger in our community. We are collecting canned goods (along with other non perishables) October 1-31 and building mountains for each of the classes and our customers/staff.  Last year Ford Canada in partnership with their local schools collected 377,650 lbs of food and hope to collect more this year.  We invite you to join us to help fill a Ford truck with food that will help supply the Airdrie Food Bank with much needed resources for our community!

Open Houses and Career Events in October and November – The Goal is to Find your Best Fit

While everyone hopes to reap financial benefits, there are other, maybe more important reasons to invest in Education after High School.

Time to Choose is an online resource with great information to help students Find the Best Fit for themselves at a post-secondary institution.

Do some research by reading viewbooks (available in the Career Centre) or online.

Follow up by coming to the Alberta Post Secondary Event at Bert Church on November 27 from 6:30 – 8 pm.  Parents, guardians and students are all welcome to attend.

Out of Province (OOP) Post Secondary Institutions – Public Event at BMO on Oct 23 from 6-8 pm

What is OOP?
Alberta out-of-province university fairs evolved from the former Calgary OOP fairs to begin expanding across the province in 2016. OOP brings together over 40 of Canada's finest post-secondary institutions from outside Alberta and showcases them over the same two week period each year in October.
Who should attend OOP?
Any student who is, or may be considering, post-secondary education! All our fairs feature representatives from participating institutions, and students will have the opportunity to ask questions and explore their options in a career fair-style event. Some of our daytime events are limited as to who can attend, but all evening events are open to the general public. Check out our events page for more information!
IF you cannot attend on October 23, you can attend an evening event.
