Principal's Message
Well, we made it through a very cold week in Airdrie. We are looking forward to some warmer weather in the coming days, although our perception of what that is is a bit skewed these days! Thanks to everyone for helping each other out, reminding kids to dress warmly, and staying on top of your learning. Here are a few reminders for the week ahead.
1. No School - February Break
There will be no school from Monday, February 15 - Friday, February 19th. Classes will resume on Monday, February 22nd.
2. Cohort Change - Bell Times
We have planned to change the order for our cohorts for half the year. Starting on Monday, February 22nd, the Gold Cohort will arrive first at school (8:45) and depart first from their classes throughout the day. The Blue cohort will arrive second (8:50) and depart last from their classes throughout the day. This means that Blue doors open at 8:50 AM and gold doors at 8:45 AM. Please make note of this if you drop your child off at school.
3. School Council
On Wednesday, February 24th, we will host our School Council meeting on Zoom. Please follow the link below if you are interested in attending.

4. U of C Student Teachers joining us!
On Monday, February 22nd, we welcome back our University of Calgary student teachers. We are excited to be a training ground for new teachers entering the profession. Thank you to our staff for partnering with the U of C in this endeavour. This year, BCHS has had 8 student teachers.
5. Parent Feedback Survey
As part of our annual school planning process, we like to gather parent feedback on a few questions. If you have a moment, please fill out this short survey and tell us how we are doing! Thank you in advance

6. Welcome to New Staff
At the start of semester 2, BCHS welcomed a few new staff to the fold.
Ms. Chelsea Somerville - replacing Ms. Kirsten Medd, who is away on maternity leave. Ms. Somerville is teaching Math and Science full time online
Ms. Sabrina Niesman - Ms. Neisman is teaching part time online Science.
Ms. Hidemi Uchiage - Ms. Uchiage returns from her maternity leave and is teaching full time online Math.
7. Inclement Weather Feedback
As the designated principal for school closure in Airdrie, I spent the week waking up and consulting with trustees to determine whether we should recommend closure for Airdrie schools to the superintendent. It is never an easy decision, as in closing schools we are keeping over 10,500 students home for the day and causing parents to alter their plans as well. If you have any thoughts or suggestions on ways we can improve the process, I would welcome them via email . Thank you in advance.
Thank you for your support and have a great weekend,
Ryan
