Principal's Message

Rocky View Schools - Superintendent of Schools announces leadership announcements

Good Afternoon Everyone,

What an unseasonably warm week we've just had! It was a nice teaser of what summer is going to feel like (hopefully). Please see below for some updates from BCHS.

1. Last Day of Official Classes

The last day of regular instruction for high school students is Wednesday, June 16. Similar to the end of our first semester, RVS has adjusted final exam expectations for June due to the unique school year. Our school will not have cumulative final exams but will remain open to June 24 to offer students the following supports. Also, some Grade 12 students may choose to write optional diploma exams.

June 17-24:

Students Who Are Not Passing: Students who are not passing are required to attend school to receive targeted support. This support will be targeted to complete assignments that would have a substantial impact on their course grade (example: redoing a source analysis, rewriting a unit exam, etc.).

Students Who Are Passing: Students who are passing may choose to be reassessed or to complete assignments that would have a substantial impact on course grade (example: redoing a source analysis, rewriting a unit exam, etc.).

Other Supports Available: Our school is also open June 17-24 to support students for several reasons. A few examples include those requiring emotional support, students with specialized or exceptional needs, or to provide space and supervision for those writing diploma exams.

Please watch for additional details soon on how we will support these activities.
I encourage you to reach out to your student’s teacher if you have questions on the targeted supports offered June 17-24. I hope that these extended supports will allow your student to have a positive end to our school year.

2. Graduation Weekend

Preparations are done and we are excited to celebrate our 2021 Graduates this weekend. On Saturday, June 5th, we'll host 17 cohorts of students and their parents in a drive-in walking the stage event. Students will get to celebrate that seminal moment where 13 years of education culminates. We look forward to this celebration.

As well, on Saturday, we will be sharing our virtual ceremony on our Youtube Channel at 7:30 PM. The virtual ceremony is the entire, traditional ceremony, including speeches and the reading of the graduates.

Thanks for your continued support, we're getting there!

Our Sports Medicine students enjoyed learning different treatments for injury this week. Great to see the 'hands on' learning kids!

Summer Student Leadership Opportunities for students

One Love Leadership Camps:

Students new to One Love are invited to join us for 3 days to gain leadership skills and community organizing tools. At the end of the camp, students will learn the importance of relationship health in ending relationship abuse. Session 1: June 21st -23rd , Session 2: July 12th -14th. Apply here.

One Song Glory Musical Theatre Training Program

One Song Glory is a fully subsidized, six-weekend intensive youth musical theatre training program that builds community, self-confidence and self-expression through a combination of new music creation, masterclasses, rehearsal and online presentations. The goal is to offer participants a professional rehearsal experience, the chance to create and design new work, provide industry insight and the guidance needed to develop a fruitful career in the performing arts.

Interested students aged 13-19 are to register and submit an audition video. All who register can attend a free online Video Creation Workshop this summer with a chance to resubmit their audition videos, applying what they learned. Both performing and non-performing artists (writers, visual artists, poets, designers, filmmakers, stage managers) can apply. The deadline to submit is June 11 at 5 p.m.

The SOAR Summer Innovation Camp

is an interactive virtual program designed to immerse students in Grades 7-12 in the world of entrepreneurship and innovation through project-based learning challenges. Camp participants will have the opportunity to engage in live workshops, take part in design challenges, learn from diverse entrepreneur guest speakers/mentors, and collaborate with like minded peers to create their own ventures.  This year's camp program will be offered in two 4-week sessions for students (July 5th-30th; August 3rd-27th).

Further information about this year's program is available at soaredu.ca/soar-summer-programs. Although there is a fee involved in the camp, we have financial assistance options to ensure greater equity for all interested in participating.

first annual AG Data Science Camp in August 2021 at Olds College

This is a powerful ag science/data learning opportunity that is connected to the new innovative Agriculture Techgronmoy Diploma at Olds College through the Werklund School of Agriculture Technology. The event is fully sponsored for 20 students who are chosen by a selection committee in June.

The future of Agriculture needs to connect with youth from urban and rural. This is an excellent learning opportunity for any youth interested in careers in science, technology, agriculture, etc. Agriculture is an industry that needs all youth to understand their fit to the many careers found serving Agriculture. This is especially true of the emerging ag data/technology areas that are growing in importance and usage within this industry.  This is the new direction for agriculture around the world and we have the training in our own backyard.  Student applications due by June 7th.  Please use the link below for more information and to submit the application. https://www.oldscollege.ca/programs/high-school-learning/camps/ag-data-science-camp/index.html
