Principal's Message

We have had a busy week at Bert Church High School with Covid case reporting and changing protocols. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work together to communicate with our community. Please read below for updates.

1. Communication

As of Tuesday, November 10th, Rocky View Schools has updated their communication to Potential Close Contacts of Covid-19. Please follow this link for the local story. At Bert Church, we are appreciative of this as it will allow us to notify parents, students, and staff quicker in the event of a confirmed Covid-19 case at school.

Some important points to remember are:

a. in the event your child is identified as a potential close contact, you will receive a personalized letter home explaining the isolation requirements.  This letter will come from Bert Church High School. AHS will contact you but due to a larger number of cases, their timing to contact trace is longer than the 24 - 48 hours originally thought.

b. if you do not receive a potential close contact letter, your child's class was not directly impacted by a positive Covid-19 case.

c. All families will receive a general message updating them that a case of Covid-19 has been identified in our school but that the school is still open for learning.

d. It is the parent's decision whether to send your child to school and we will mark them absent accordingly based on whether you excuse them or not.

e. If your child tests positive for Covid-19, please inform us at the school so we can move quickly to keep our staff and students safe. If the school is not informed of a case by the parent, the wait time from AHS currently is about 7 days.

2. Quarantine Learning

As students and staff transition to quarantine, students will be receiving either week-at-a-glance or day-at-a-glance documents, depending on the length of their quarantine. With the change to school's being able to report cases more quickly, it is most likely going to be week-at-a-glance. I would encourage families to have plans to home for how quarantine learning is going to look and ensure you have the technology to do it. We are grateful for our students and staffs' commitment to learning while at home as we have had some positive reports thus far.

If a laptop is needed, we have offered student's the ability to sign out laptops for the remainder of the semester. Please see Ms. Coates in the Learning Commons if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity.

If the time has come to purchase a laptop, our local Staples store has great educational pricing for BCHS students. Please visit them and they will help you find the laptop you need.

3. Welcome to our new staff members

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Jonathan Yeh to our school for the next five weeks. Mr. Yeh is replacing Ms. Beliveau while she is away on medical leave.

Ms. Quinlan started this past week as our new gr. 10/12 Guidance Counsellor. She is starting to connect with students already and we're enjoying having a full complement of counsellors in our student services office.

4. School Council - November

I invite anyone interested to join us next Wednesday, November 18th, for our November School Council meeting. The meeting information is below:

5. Kindness

I thought it fitting to touch on this as today is the International Day of Kindness. As Airdrie has seen its case count go up significantly and cases start to impact schools, we encourage everyone to be kind to each other and those around you. We are moving into month nine of a global pandemic that none of us have ever experienced before. As we say in my home quite often, we're not all at our best right now. An extra dose of kindness and patience with each other is needed through these difficult times.

Thanks for your support and have a great weekend,

Ryan

Sports Performance 20/30's were active this week, completing a spin class and working on their agility at Genesis Place. Thanks for sharing Ms. Marter.
