Principal's Message

This week saw us receive notification of our first COVID-19 case at Bert Church High School. We have been preparing to respond for awhile now and are grateful for our communities cooperation with the close contact process. Now that we have had a case, and with the numbers of cases on the rise in our community, we should all be prepared to receive notification of potential close contact with a positive Covid case at school. A few points to review:

1. Communication

When we are notified of a positive test from Alberta Health Services via Rocky View Schools, we have work to do to ensure we are contacting the correct potential close contacts. Our office team all have different roles in completing these tasks and communicating with our families. If you receive an email from us regarding potential close contact, your child is required to stay home and isolate until AHS contacts you with more details. We will update the absences on our end so you do not have to call them in.

All families will receive a general letter informing them of a positive case at the school. This letter is not a close contact letter nor requires action on the families behalf.

2. Diligence in following health measures

Our goal since the beginning of the year has been to reduce the risk of spreading germs at school through layers of public health measures including distancing as much as possible, wearing masks, hand hygiene, covering our coughs, and staying home when sick. With the increase in cases throughout our community we all need to be diligent with these things to limit the spread. Schools are not immune to cases being brought in from the community and the stretching point for us will be staffing as staff have to isolate as well as students. As a staff we are being vigilant about these measures and encourage everyone to be so as well.

3. Close contact tracing

With cases rising, contact tracers are being stressed and timelines are extended. It was announced yesterday that AHS is changing some processes related to contact tracing. Please follow the link below for more information.

COVID-19 Contact Tracing Update

People who have been notified they have been in close contact with someone outside of school are asked to follow the steps in the link above. If you call the school to ask whether your child should stay home due to close contact, we'll direct you to the web-page above. We can help guide you through the decision making process but are not contact tracers ourselves.

Thank you for you attention to these areas and continued diligence. We're in this together.

Have a great weekend,

Ryan

Parent / Guardian Survey on School
Re-entry and Covid-19

Alberta School Councils' Association (ASCA) is conducting a survey to measure the “pandemic pulse” in the return to schooling with Covid-19 implications.

All parents / guardians in Alberta with children in Kindergarten to Grade 12 are invited to participate in the survey.  (please share widely)

Participation is anonymous, and will inform the ASCA Board of Directors on parents’ perspectives during the Fall 2020 school re-entry.

The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. All responses are confidential.

The survey closes on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.

Thank you for your time and efforts!
