Principal's Message

1. Laptop Program

The loaning program has begun and we are signing out individual devices to students. Thanks to Ms. Coates in the learning commons for doing all the heavy lifting with managing the devices.

We were able to connect with Staples here in Airdrie and they are offering our students educational pricing on Chromebook packages. If you are interested in purchasing an affordable laptop, their packages are really student friendly. A highlight is four years of protection on the device, which we often hear from parents as being important. Here is a quick screenshot of the three options

The most affordable option comes to approximately $450 with the most expensive being $580. This includes warranties, travelling cases, etc... At times, these devices go on sale as well. Mention you are a Bert Church student at Staples in Airdrie and take advantage of their educational pricing!

2. Student Parking Passes

GRAINGER APPROVED Parking Permit, Blue, W 3 In, PK5 - 2XKE6|2XKE6 - Grainger
For those students driving to school, we ask they come to the office to pick up their parking pass for the year. Thank you in advance!

3. Health Measures Update

We continue to be vigilent with our health measures and are grateful to our community for your continued support. Please see the text below for information relating to Close Contacts from Alberta Health Services

Close contacts

Classmates and close contacts

If a student is a close contact of someone confirmed to have COVID-19, they must quarantine and stay home for 14 days. This longer period of time is required because the incubation period of COVID-19 is two weeks. Visit Isolation requirements for more detailed information.

Close contacts include people who:

  • take care of someone with COVID-19 or had contact through touch with the person with COVID-19
  • were close to that person for a long time, or
  • were coughed or sneezed on by that person

AHS will confirm and contact close contacts when there is a case at school and will contact parents and staff.

Generally, the entire classroom is considered to be close contacts of the case. This is a cautious approach to identifying close contacts in order to minimize the risk of transmission.

This means that if a student tests positive for COVID-19, all of their classmates must quarantine and stay home for 14 days. Additionally, all of these classmates should also be tested for COVID-19. Even if a classmate of a case is tested and the result is negative, they still must complete the 14 day quarantine.

4. Parent Teacher Interview Information

We are in the process of confirming dates for Parent Teacher Interviews and will email out the information on Monday, Oct 19th. Interviews will be conducted virtually and will utilize Conference Manager to have people sign up. Keep an eye on your email for more information.

Have a great weekend,

Ryan

Parent / Guardian Survey on School
Re-entry and Covid-19

Alberta School Councils' Association (ASCA) is conducting a survey to measure the “pandemic pulse” in the return to schooling with Covid-19 implications.

All parents / guardians in Alberta with children in Kindergarten to Grade 12 are invited to participate in the survey.  (please share widely)

Participation is anonymous, and will inform the ASCA Board of Directors on parents’ perspectives during the Fall 2020 school re-entry.

The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. All responses are confidential.

The survey closes on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.

Thank you for your time and efforts!

Gr. 12 students, mark October 20th in your calendar. Bert Church High School is connecting you with the Educational Liaison Association of Alberta (ELAA) to find out more information about numerous post secondary institutions. The event runs from 6 - 8 PM. More information will be provided directly to gr. 12 students on Monday, October 19th.
Our Art 10 students are displaying their work in one of our hallways. Thanks to everyone for your contribution. It is amazing!
On Tuesday, October 13th, we unveiled our Time Capsule from 25 years ago. Some highlights involved having a few alumni back to speak about their memories, hearing Mr. Kirk's memories of 1995 as a staff member, and looking at all the material from 25 years ago! We started a new time capsule at TC Energy here in Airdrie as well as in our school. Here's to 2045!
