Principal's Message

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope everyone has had a great week and that you're looking forward to the weekend.

It was a week of contrasting emotions for us at BCHS as we celebrated our graduates in a traditional convocation ceremony for the first time in 3 years only to learn shortly after of the passing of our colleague, Norm Cobble.

Mr. Cobble's teaching career intersected with Bert Church on three different occasions over the span of about 20 years. Recently, Mr. Cobble returned to our school in November as his family moved back from Victoria.

Norm was a kind man who could often be found talking to students and staff in the hallways between classes. He was a fixture in our staff student hockey game and often kept the conversation going in the staff lunch room. We will miss him and our thoughts are with his wife Rachel, and their four children.

Many people have already stepped up and helped financially as Rachel grieves her husband and faces the reality of moving forward without his income. If you feel like supporting the family financially at this time, please follow the link below to their GoFundMe page.

As we said to our students on Monday, we hope to be able to honour Norm's passing by appreciating the days and moments that we have and treating others with kindness and respect. Thank you to everyone who has reached out in support of our staff this week as we mourned the loss of a colleague and friend.

Have a great weekend,

Ryan Reed
Principal | Bert Church High School
We celebrated our graduates on Saturday, May 28th in front of 1600 people at Genesis Place. What an enjoyable day and the 239 graduates have much to be proud of. Well done kids!
Congrats to our boy's soccer team on making it to the RVS Finals next Tuesday! The boys have been a strong team all year and have represented BCHS well! Good luck.
Our band students performed their first live concert in 2.5 years. What a way to end off the year! Well done kids and thank you for your leadership Mr. Dorner.
Career Advantage Program (CAP) - Limited Spots Available!

What are Examples of Health Science Careers? | BS in Health Sciences

Are you a gr. 9 student who is possibly interested in a career in health sciences? Is your Science 9 grade over 80%? If so, the Career Advantage Program (CAP) might be for you. As of this writing, there are just a few spots remaining in the cohort. Students in CAP earn more credits in their gr. 10 year while taking Sports Performance, Sports Medicine, and Biology 20. The cohort of students accelerates and gets to see what a 20-level Science is like. If interested in one of the few remaining spots, please email rreed@rockyview.ab.ca
While photos around the school are enjoyable, getting off campus and taking shots at the zoo was a ton of fun for our photography students this week. When I saw the photos I couldn't believe high school students were responsible for them. They look professional! Thanks for sharing Mr. Maudie and well-done students.

Rocky View Schools Leadership Academy is a program for high school students in grades 10-12 seeking to develop their leadership skills and improve their school and community. Students work with other like-minded students from around the school division, as a large group on a monthly basis. The program is an outstanding way to bridge the distance between various student leaders from within our district while connecting them to authentic and applicable leadership training opportunities. The RVS Leadership Academy program builds over three years--each year has its own unique program and design while still encompassing our pillars of Collaboration, Communication, and Continuous Self-Directed Learning.

Please join us for a virtual meeting (Zoom) with your families on Monday, June 6 at 5:30 pm to meet with our RVLA and CLC staff and a few current RVLA students to get an idea of what the program looks like and what types of experiences students and parents can anticipate for the fall of 2022!
