Principal's Message

Hi Everyone,

1. Course Registration

We spent this past week handing out course pick sheets to our students, leading to some great conversations with many of them. We find this time of year fruitful as students start looking ahead to what is in front of them and use it to re-focus.

Starting on Monday, March 14th, students will enter these picks into PowerSchool. Staff will work diligently with students to ensure the information entered matches what is on their course pick sheet.

Thank you for taking the time this past week to review these selections with your child and ensure they are on track to achieve their academic goals.

2. Portables Update

We have confirmed that portables are going to be accessible between April 1-15th as work on the fire hydrant is going to start shortly.

To install the fire hydrant, a significant amount of directional drilling will have to occur over the next 2-3 weeks impacting the Bert Church Parking lot. We estimate it will cost us 25 - 30 parking stalls throughout the duration of the project, mostly in the student parking area on the north side of the lot.

I would encourage anyone who can to carpool or find alternative parking, either at Grace Baptist Church (thank you to our kind neighbours) or on the west side of Genesis Place. As well, if there are alternatives after school to getting picked up (walking to a spot offsite, catching a ride, riding the city bus), reducing the amount of traffic in the lot will help get busses in and out and get the job done.

We are excited to get into the portables and the hydrant work is one of the last hurdles to clear. Thanks for your anticipated patience and understanding as we work with the drilling company.

3. Substitute Appreciation Week

March 14 - 18th marks Substitute Appreciation Week and we are thankful for the tremendous work they do at BCHS. Throughout the pandemic, we have relied heavily on our substitute teachers in Rocky View and they came through. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to student learning!

4. Parent-Teacher Conferences

Save the dates - Tuesday, April 5th, and Thursday, April 7th, will be the dates for semester 2 Parent-Teacher Conferences. We are hosting in-person conferences, with families being given the choice to do them online. We heard back from many people who liked the efficiency of online conferences but also value the in-person connection we get from meeting and talking together. We will use this semester's 'choice' to see what percentage of people select online to better plan conferences in the future. Look for the sign-up in the weeks ahead and we look forward to these conversations.

5. Alberta Education Assurance (AEA) Survey Underway

Alberta Education's Alberta Education Assurance (AEA) survey is now underway for parents, students and teachers. Please know that parents may receive information from Alberta Education by mail in the coming days about how to complete the survey.
At Bert Church High School, we appreciate your taking the taking the time to complete the survey. We welcome the feedback the survey provides. And when more BCHS parents complete the survey, the results are better representative of our families' perspectives. This is important because we use the information collected as part of our decision-making process.

Have a great weekend!

Our Photography students took advantage of the horror frost this past week and snagged some great photos. Awesome seeing the kids exploring the area around the school.
A parent and student-run graduation committee have organized a Graduation Dance for the BCHS Grad Class of 2022. With the event only two months away, interested graduates should book their tickets if they plan on attending. To purchase tickets, please follow the QR code. Any questions can be directed to the committee at bchsgrad22@gmail.com. Thanks to the folks organizing this event and reach out to them if you have questions.
Bert Church High School was home to an entertaining night of basketball Monday as crosstown rivals WH Croxford rolled into town. The Chargers played hard in front of the standing-room-only crowd and were victorious, advancing to the zone semifinals. Good luck to all our basketball teams as they conclude their years and thank you to the coaches for your hard work!
