We are in the thick of Semester 2 with course registrations completed and kids and staff working hard to continue learning this week. I wanted to pause and thank our dedicated team for their continued hard work through a challenging school year. This past week allowed me to have numerous check-in conversations with staff about their professional growth plans. These are annual plans created by all staff members to ensure they are learning and growing in line with our school educational plan and Rocky Views Four Year Plan. Our goal at the school is to do things that increase the probability of success for all students. We have so much to offer students at Bert Church, and at the heart of it is a dedicated staff.
Last week saw us chat with hundreds of students during course registrations. This week, it was time to talk to staff. Through all the conversations, I am left confident in the dedication of all members of the BCHS community. Thank you for your hard work and commitment and we'll see our parents at PTC's on April 5th and 7th!
1. Portables Update
I appreciate your flexibility as the drilling in our parking lot continued this week. The directional drilling has wrapped up, and they will be pulling the waterline through this weekend. I hope the parking lot will slowly start returning to its normal state in the week ahead, and the fire hydrant will be installed in April. Our plan is to be moved into the portables upon returning from spring break, which means we have 13 more instructional days without them!
2. Parent-Teacher Conferences
Save the dates - Tuesday, April 5th, and Thursday, April 7th, will be the dates for semester 2 Parent-Teacher Conferences. We are hosting in-person conferences, with families being given a choice to do them online.
On Wednesday, we were honoured to learn from Kalyn Kodiak, a Metis Herbalist and teacher of traditional plant medicine. She spoke to our Indigenous Studies class and other interested students about how we can incorporate indigenous knowledge into our reconciliation garden! If students or families are interested in participating in this ongoing project, we would appreciate volunteers and/or resources.
