Principal's Message

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope you're doing well today and looking forward to the long weekend. We are in full wrapping up the year mode as we turn the corner after May long. Please see below for a few updates from the school.

1. Kids move into the portables!

We adjusted to our additional space this week as 6/8 classes moved into the portables. The space is beautiful with tons of natural light and room. Mr. Jones, Ms. Campbell, Mr. Sinclair, Ms. Brandford, Ms. Brown, Mr. Cobble, and Ms. Nguyen call the portable home now for their classes.

2. Graduation ceremony around the corner!

We are excited to host our first large group, in-person graduation in 3 years next Saturday. Our graduates will be celebrated with a ceremony at 2:00 PM in the Genesis Place Fieldhouse. We're proud of the work the graduates have done and are looking forward to honouring them.

Specifically, one graduate has been recognized as our valedictorian for the 2022 graduating class. Dylan Matwe will be delivering remarks to his peers at the ceremony on behalf of the graduating class. Dylan is an outstanding participant in school life, a terrific musician, and an incredible academic student. Congratulations Dylan!

Have a great weekend and see you next Friday.

Students in Creative Writing benefitted from a visit by author Miranda Krogstad. The kids loved the opportunity to hear from the poet and Miranda was impressed with our kid's writing ability. Thanks for sharing Mr. Smith!
Our Chargers represented on the rugby pitch, both with our own boy's rugby squad and our joint squad with George McDougall on the girl's side. Way to represent!
Battle of Alberta lines were drawn on Wednesday to signify the first playoff game between the Oilers and Flames. Students and staff got into the action, with Flames fans walking tall in the halls on Thursday! Thanks for organizing Mrs. Stachniak.
Our PE 10 Lacrosse kids were hard at work this past week. We are excited to offer a gr. 9 lacrosse option in addition to the gr. 10 one next year!
Our Art students were at it once again, creating album covers for display in the hallway. The kids do amazing work under the thoughtful leadership of Mrs. Tschritter and will have a fully renovated art room to enjoy next fall!

Do You Know About  . . . . . .Dual Credit Opportunities?

RockyView has partnered with two post secondaries to offer courses that students can take that will expose them to the beginning of their career path.  The student can complete a course credit on their academic transcript while they finish high school.
-Students need to be in grade 11 or grade 12
-some courses have high school pre-requisites that must be taken first.
-some courses require a student to be on campus (you would arrange transportation and we would adjust your schedule),  but many are being offered online and we can give a school block of time to work on it.
Courses offered online with SAIT include:
Anatomy and Physiology, Health Care Professionalism, Infection Prevention and Control, Innovation and Disruption in Water Systems, Introduction to Business-Credit Management, Medical Terminology, Science of Health and Wellness
https://www.sait.ca/youth-programs/dual-credit-programs/

Courses offered online with Olds College include:
Intro to Veterinary Profession, Solving Technology Problems - Agriculture, Managing Landscapes - Horticulture, Intro to Sport Management

Students interested in applying for a Dual Credit course need to speak to their school counsellor who will provide the needed application forms and paperwork.
