Principal's Message

This week was full of activity as we entered May. I reminded our staff the last time we were in-person at the start of May was the spring of 2019. It has been three full years so we are excited to see what lies ahead in this busy month. Please see below for a few updates from the school.

Mental Health Awareness Week

We highlighted Mental Health Awareness Week with hats on for mental health on Wednesday. The focus of the week was on empathy, something that is very important all the time, but especially now. For resources and more information, please follow this link to the Canada Mental Health Association's Webpage.

More locally, the City of Airdrie offers resources and links to support in our city. Follow this link for this information.

We all have mental health and for some, it is not healthy right now. Reach out to a friend, staff member, parent, or anyone in your sphere to talk about it and make sure you receive the support you need.

Portable Update

The fire hydrant is in the ground and we are getting closer to occupying the portables. It seems if I provide a date that it moves, so just know they are in the testing phase and we'll occupy the portables as soon as we get the green light. We are hoping the parking lot is restored to full capacity shortly as the contractors fill in the holes and move their equipment. Thank you for your continued patience through this process.

New Blood Play

This week, we hosted New Blood, a play put on by a group from Strathmore about Residential Schools. We had over 200 students sign up to attend the play and the q & a at the end was powerful. We are looking for tangible ways to grow in our knowledge and understanding of what happened in Canadian Residential schools as an act of reconciliation. Thank you to Mr. Bates for bringing the play to the school and Mr. Castiglione and Mrs. Twomey for helping organize it.

Alberta Legislative Page Program

Thanks for your continued support of the school - we are looking forward to finishing the year strong. Have a great weekend.

Staff and students brought awareness to mental health and showed their support for everyone this week with Hats on for Mental Health.

Mental Health Awareness Week  - Inviting Parents to take the Be There Certificate

The theme this year is Empathy - often students have a difficult time wanting to support their friends through difficult times or a break-up, etc. but they don't know how or feel overwhelmed with the responsibility to solve it for them all alone.  Parents also often say that they need more help on how to connect with their adolescents.  The Be There certificate is the best example to increase understanding and provide skills. Log in and earn your certificate.
Mamma Mia tickets are on sale now! We're thrilled about the return of live theatre at BCHS and can't wait to see it! Below are a couple pictures of our students rehearsing. They have put in many hours, with 40 students on stage, 14 students backstage, 7 students in the band, and 8 of our Chargers from the football team.

Buy tickets here!
Our leadership students hosted the annual Staff vs. Student hockey game last Friday. For the first time in BCHS history, the students came out on top, winning a close, 1-goal game. Congratulations to the students and thank you to the Calgary Flames Alumni for helping out the staff!
Our Chargers were representing on the badminton courts in Brooks last weekend. Congratulations to the following students on their top-three finishes

Gold - Girls' Doubles - Madison H & Rachel B
Silver - Girls' Singles - Charlotte B.
Bronze - Boys' Singles - Paramjot D

We're proud of all of you!
How fortunate are our students to have access to Genesis Place across the parking lot. This week, our Sports Performance students participated in Zoomba and Spin classes with instructors!
