On Thursday April 15th Social 30-1 students in Ms. Williams' class welcomed Senator Martin to come and speak to them via Zoom about her experiences as a Korean Canadian Senator. Senator Martin is working with a national committee to help get more recognition for the efforts of Canadians during the Korean War. She was especially excited to speak to Airdrie students as she is aware of our relationship with our sister city of Gwacheon, South Korea.
Senator Martin was able to give us some insight into the workings of the Canadian parliamentary system, with examples like the recent passionate discussions in Parliament on assisted death legislation. In addition to answering student's questions about her experiences as a Senator, she also shared her opinions of various issues students asked about, including two-tier health care and private schools.
