Principal's Message

Rocky View Schools - Superintendent of Schools announces leadership announcements

Good Morning,

I hope you have had a good week. It is hard to believe we are entering the final week of April! Having just turned the corner to the fourth quarter, we probably all feel a bit like a boxer just hanging on for the final rounds. I continue to be proud of our learning community's commitment to their learning. Our online and in-person students and staff are inspiring.

I encourage you to be diligent with the daily health check, stay home if you don't pass it, and continue following all the health protocols. We're getting there!

Please see a few updates from BCHS this week below.

1. Planning for 2021.22 underway!

We are in full planning mode for the 2021.22 school year and have almost concluded our spring budget as well as started the staffing process. Our student timetabling is beginning next week as we have organized all the course requests we collected.

A few highlights for the 2021.22 school year include the possibility of portables coming to BCHS. Did you know our school will be operating at 108% next year with over 1200 students projected? We are excited to be growing and hope to have the space provided by the government to help accommodate our growing population. Providing portables at BCHS are the number 1 portable priority for RVS and we are grateful for their support.

BCHS will see some significant upgrades to the school building next year, with new flooring going in the main hallways of the school. As well, this week, a group of contractors visited the school to quote on LED lighting to brighten up the school. Lastly, we are excited to once again offer Construction classes to interested students in a redesigned and upgraded wood shop.

2. Parent Teacher Conferences - Tuesday night

A reminder if you haven't signed up to discuss your child's progress with their teacher, please do! Follow the link below to jump on a zoom call with our staff on Tuesday, April 27th, from 4:30 - 7:30 PM.

Enjoy your weekend and see you next week!

Students got outside and helped clean up the school grounds and surrounding area to celebrate Earth Day. We have a beautiful campus and want to maintain it. Thanks kids!
Our Foods 20/30 class had a terrific cupcake baking contest on Wednesday. Students were assessed on taste and creativity, among other things. Congratulations to Rylee on her winning cupcake!
We appreciate our office administration staff and all the work they do. Their positive attitudes are a valuable piece of our school community. We celebrated them on Wednesday for Office Administrators Day. Thank you!
On Thursday April 15th Social 30-1 students in Ms. Williams' class welcomed Senator Martin to come and speak to them via Zoom about her experiences as a Korean Canadian Senator.  Senator Martin is working with a national committee to help get more recognition for the efforts of Canadians during the Korean War. She was especially excited to speak to Airdrie students as she is aware of our relationship with our sister city of Gwacheon, South Korea.

Senator Yonah Martin

Senator Martin was able to give us some insight into the workings of the Canadian parliamentary system, with examples like the recent passionate discussions in Parliament on assisted death legislation. In addition to answering student's questions about her experiences as a Senator, she also shared her opinions of various issues students asked about, including two-tier health care and private schools.
Congratulations to our March student of the month, Skylar Halupka. Not often do more than 5 staff members nominate a student for the student of the month, but Skylar fit the bill. His hard work and positive attitude show in everything he does. Congratulations Skylar!
