Principal's Message
Hi Everyone,
I hope you've had a good week and are looking forward to the weekend. We are heading into the last three days of our Intervention Week prior to preparing for Semester 2. Please read below for some updates from the school.
Intervention Week
Students are welcome to come in from Monday, January 24th - Wednesday, January 26th to move a failing grade up or be reassessed in a course to try to improve their grade. The students and teachers have been great at communicating with each other so far so if you have any questions, the best place to start is with your child's classroom teacher.
A reminder there are no classes for any students on Thursday, January 27th and Friday, January 28th. We have a scheduled PL day on Monday, January 31st with students returning to school on Tuesday, February 1st for the first day of S2.
PAT's
A reminder that the Social Studies PAT is running Monday, January 24th at 9:00 AM and the Science PAT is Wednesday, January 26th at 9:00 AM. Students may come to school to write that day and will be directed to the appropriate locations. A reminder that the process of preparing for and writing a PAT is great learning for our students and that if their performance on the PAT negatively impacts their grade, teachers can use their judgement to not include it in their final mark.
Portables
As many of you are probably noticing, the portables are nearing completion and we anticipate a move in date being communicated to us shortly. There is still some uncertainty around the placement of a fire hydrant that will be needed in order for us to move in, but the portables themselves are nearing completion. See below for some photos.
I walked off the hallway in the middle of the portables and it's longer than the extension that was built in 1997/98. Getting 8 new learning spaces will help alleviate the pressure on our building and we look forward to moving in. Our hope is we start the first three weeks of Semester 2 with the current setup and are able to move in for the start of March.
Bathroom Renovation
Speaking of new, we are excited to see the bathroom renovation coming to a close and we're hoping to move in shortly. Doing school this fall without two of our washrooms has been challenging but the end result is great. The photos below are the current renovation in the bathrooms by the fitness center/gym area.
We're excited for what lies ahead and are looking to conclude semester 1 strong. Have a great weekend and thanks for reading.

Stress vs. Anxiety
Althought the end of semester 1 is not a typical exam period, we do know that students and families experience stress during times of transition. Our gr. 10/12 counsellor Suzanne Tiemstra has put together a few resources for our community to look at that help students and families cope with the stresses of life. Thanks Ms. Tiemstra!
