Principal's Message

Good Morning Everyone,

With Semester 1 in our rearview mirror, we look forward to what lies ahead. The start of semester 2 will be unique, with our gr. 9 Science and Social Studies students writing their Provincial Achievement Tests on Monday/Tuesday. To see the expectations/schedule for next week, please take a look below.

Monday, January 30th

All Gr. 9 students - attend school as normal.
Gr. 9 students in Science this semester - go to the learning commons to write your Science 9 PAT at 9:00 AM. After you have written your test, you will proceed to your scheduled classes for the day.

All Gr. 10 - 12 students - attend school as normal, following your semester 2 schedule.

Tuesday, January 31st

All Gr. 9 students - attend school as normal.
Gr. 9 students in Social Studies this semester - go to the learning commons to write your Social Studies 9 PAT at 9:00 AM. After you have written your test, you will proceed to your scheduled classes for the day.

All Gr. 10 - 12 students - attend school as normal, following your semester 2 schedule.

Course Changes

With the standardized tests running in the morning, we will begin our semester 2 course changes in the afternoon. We hope to conclude the changes by Wednesday, February 1st. As always, Gr. 12 changes will take priority, followed by 11's, 10's and lastly 9's. Students are reminded to attend their regularly scheduled classes until a change can be completed.

Semester startups are busy under normal circumstances, and these are not normal circumstances. The best way for your child to prepare for Monday is to have the PowerSchool app or website on their phone and know their schedule. We have limited capacity to print schedules that day, so students coming with an understanding of their schedules is needed.

Thank you all, have a great weekend!

We have had At Dawn Wellness reach out to support our graduates! Can we run this in this week's newsletter and for the rest of February?
For the Month of February, for each family member of a Bert Church High School graduating student who comes in and receives a MASSAGE at At Dawn Wellness, ADW will donate $5 towards the graduating class of 2023.
When you arrive for your treatment, please let the front-end team member know who your child is and what school they attend.

You probably know that engineers build bridges. But do you know that they also code software? Investigate new ways to bring clean water to communities. Design medical devices that are improving our quality of life.

Join us for a free and fun annual event designed to introduce grade 10 and 11 girls and non-binary youth to the exciting world of engineering! Students will learn more about the diverse array of engineering disciplines available and get a "day-in-the-life" experience of what it would be like to study at the Schulich School of Engineering.

We are thrilled to host this event in person for the first time since 2020.

This engaging day includes:

  • Interactive engineering demos
  • Engineering design challenge
  • Department fair
  • Keynote speaker
  • Free lunch

Date: Thursday, February 23, 2023. The deadline to sign up is Feb. 15th

Location: Schulich School of Engineering, ENC 70 (Engineering Block-C) Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. MST; registration opens at 8:00 a.m.

Because this event is during our February break, Ms. Tiemstra has reached out and received approval for a maximum of 8 students for this event without a teacher/chaperone. The students would have to fill out the attached waiver/informed consent, and the school will provide a list of the unaccompanied students with the following info:

  1. Student name
  2. Guardian name
  3. Guardian contact information (cell phone & email)
  4. Students understand that they must sign-in and sign-out at the Schulich School of Engineering Registration desk.
If you want to be one of the 8 students, please see Ms. Tiemstra or Mrs. Dominguez who will give you the waiver form.

Update from Off-Campus!

Agriculture Studies Major | Courses For Degree | Career Girls

The Green Certificate Program provides students in Grades 10-12 with opportunities to enter a variety of agriculture-related, structured learning pathways as a part of their senior high school program and to earn up to 16 Grade 12 diploma credits and a credential leading to a career in agribusiness. Students learn on the job under the direction of experienced farm personnel. Trainees select one of the specializations and, under the guidance of their trainer, work towards mastering all skills within their training program.

If you want to learn more about the Green Certificate program, students and their parents/guardians can register for an upcoming 30-minute virtual information session hosted by the Olds Regional Coordinator for this program. Attending one of these meetings is a mandatory step in the Green Certificate process.
