Principal's Message

Rocky View Schools - Superintendent of Schools announces leadership announcements

One semester of Scenario 1/3 learning is in the books and we head into Semester 2 next Monday. With the transition, we are welcoming some new students back to our building while ushering a few more online. To help with this transition, please read the notes below.

1. Semester 2 Startup - Online
  • We are starting up our online programming for S2 Monday morning. Mr. Makkreel has been in touch with all of our online students and guardians and let them know what to expect. We will have 225 students online for semester 2 and 941 in person.
  • A reminder for our online students that there will be more synchronous learning sessions required to ensure students are getting off to a good start in their courses and are able to develop quality routines.
  • If you have questions about your online programming next week, please contact:
    • your subject area teacher or homeroom teacher
    • rmakkreel@rockyview.ab.ca
  • If we don't know the answer, we'll work to find it out for you
2. Semester 2 Startup - In Person
  • Our 941 in-person students will be returning to class on Monday, February 1st as well.
  • Please check PowerSchool to ensure you know your schedule for Monday morning. We have had to make a few changes to teacher schedules due to having 7 online teachers. PowerSchool is up to date and accurate as of Friday afternoon.
  • If you don't know where to go for a class, please come to the office and the staff is ready to help you with your questions
  • We will be starting the Admin Wall for course changes with our gr. 12 students on Monday morning. Our office staff will call students down to potentially make changes.
  • If these changes are complex program changes, you will be referred to student services.
  • Our goal is to have class lists set by Thursday, February 4th.
3. Textbook Return/Sign Out
  • Due to the unique nature of our semester 1 finish, we are not signing out textbooks on Monday, February 1st. We have a significant number of outstanding textbooks. Please bring textbooks from Semester 1 with you on Monday to return as we cannot sign new resources out to you until Semester 1 resources are returned.

4. Report Card Online Access

Student marks from S1 have been stored. Rocky View Schools are working on a technical challenge with our Student Information Software provider's system and are confident that by Tuesday, February 2nd, report cards will be able to be viewed online. For how to view them online, please follow the link below.

Student marks and comments are available right now the Parent Portal so for the most updated student progress information, please refer to the Parent Portal.

We are grateful for the hard work put forth by our division staff, school staff, and students to transition from S1 - 2. There will be bumps along the way next week as we get up and running so we appreciate your patience.

Thank you and have a great weekend.

Ryan
Our Social 30-1 students welcome Paula Simons, a Senator with the Government of Canada, to speak to the class about many issues facing Canada. What a great opportunity for our students to connect with a government official. Thanks for sharing Ms. Williams!
