Principal's Message

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope you have had a great week and are looking forward to the weekend ahead. This will be the second last Charger Connects of the year, as the June 17th edition will be the final one. Any further communication will come through School Messenger.

We have gone through many ups and downs throughout the year and staff and students have shown tremendous resiliency to arrive at the point we are today. Well done to all!

I will once again encourage everyone to remain focused and finish the job at hand. For the first time in 2.5 years, we are administering diploma exams starting Monday, June 13th. This means our gr. 12 students must be focused on finishing well next week. We have had a month of celebrating the end of the school year for our gr. 12's, from the gr. 12 parent-run prom to our own graduation ceremony and everything in between. I encourage our gr. 12's to finish the job well in their final 10 days of high school.

For our gr. 9 students, you will be busy with four PAT exams in the next two weeks. ELA 9 Part B kicks us off on Wednesday, June 15th. These PATs are 'no risk', giving students the opportunity to see what they know about the course content and raise their marks at the same time. I would encourage our gr. 9 students to prepare and do their best on the exams.

For gr. 10 and 11 students, they are entering the period of reassessment opportunities, where major assessment/outcomes can be reassessed to improve their marks. Circling back and reviewing content that may have been tricky the first time allows our students to finish this semester well at the same time as looking ahead to next fall. The official reassessment period for our gr. 10 and 11 students will occur from June 16th - 24th. For those days, we will be supervising diploma and pat exams while running our regular schedule, so students should stay connected to their classroom teacher to ensure they know what is expected of them.

The school year will end for all of us but it is a more satisfying conclusion when we end well.

Have a great weekend,

Ryan Reed

To wrap up our Pride Week celebration, students and staff completed a walk around East Lake. Thank you to our QSA students and staff sponsors for all they did to celebrate Pride at BCHS this week.
Last Friday, our student leadership class hosted Relay for Life, an event meant to raise money for cancer research. In total, over $25,000 was raised towards cancer research all off the hard work of BCHS students and staff. Thanks for your dedication to a great cause and for all those who participated!
On Thursday, members of the community, as well as staff and students from BCHS, participated in a memorial walk for Mr. Cobble, our friend and colleague who tragically passed away on Saturday, May 28th. We remembered all the positive elements of Mr. Cobble's personality while showing support for Rachel and her kids. A reminder, if you would like to contribute to the Cobble family's efforts to support them through this difficult time financially, visit their GoFundMe page below.

Tuesday saw many of our gr. 12 students come dressed in their formal attire. Below is a sampling. Looking good kids!
The boys soccer team at BCHS competed for RVS gold this week and came out on the wrong end of a 2-1 score. Congratulations to Springbank on their win and thank you Coach Durand and Coach Sera for their dedication to our group this year. Well done Chargers!
Congratulations to our boy's golf team on their third-place finish at provincials! Well done kids.
Our Art students engaged in soap stone carving this week. The results were incredible. Thank you for sharing Ms. Tschritter and well done kids!
Career Advantage Program (CAP) - Limited Spots Available!

What are Examples of Health Science Careers? | BS in Health Sciences

Are you a gr. 9 student who is possibly interested in a career in health sciences? Is your Science 9 grade over 80%? If so, the Career Advantage Program (CAP) might be for you. As of this writing, there are just a few spots remaining in the cohort. Students in CAP earn more credits in their gr. 10 year while taking Sports Performance, Sports Medicine, and Biology 20. The cohort of students accelerates and gets to see what a 20-level Science is like. If interested in one of the few remaining spots, please email rreed@rockyview.ab.ca

Bow Valley College needs you!
Bow Valley College | Home

In order to serve the City of Airdrie and the surrounding rural communities, Bow Valley College would like the input of current students and parents on what programs and courses you would like to see offered at your local campus. Please visit the link below and fill out the survey!

https://stoneolafson.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_dbWGQglKf1gS7tk

We are working with the City of Airdrie on a new campus facility and are in the process of planning for future offerings.   Bow Valley College wants to offer viable alternatives to our community and obtaining the communities ideas and insights would benefit this plan immensely.  We are hoping to close this survey by June 10th

Thank you in advance!
