From the Principal's Desk
by Ryan Reed

Hi Everyone,

With the announcement on Monday from Rocky View Schools that graduation ceremonies would be canceled this spring, we have continued planning unique and creative ways to celebrate our gr. 12 students prior to their departure in June. Thanks to our graduation committee, which consists of staff and students, as well as the numerous ideas that parents have emailed me,  we have been able to firm up a plan moving forward. This plan includes:

  1. Graduation in a box – students will be receiving their graduation gown, cap, tassel, stole, and a diploma in a unique way. Graduation fees are being refunded to those who have paid so the 'graduation in a box' is a gift from our school to our graduating students. Our committee continues to work on the design and delivery of the graduation box.
  2. Virtual Ceremony – we are excited to start planning for a virtual ceremony that will be taking place on Saturday, June 20. The date has been selected to give our committee time to plan and create a virtual event. As well, we have aligned with the other Airdrie high schools (George McDougall and W.H. Croxford) so that June 20, 2020 can be a day where all of Airdrie celebrates the graduating class of 2020. The City of Airdrie has lent its support to the idea and, given time, I think the community can come together to make that day special.  Even though we can’t be together physically, this will contribute to a feeling of ‘togetherness’. The virtual ceremony will be pre-recorded, produced by students and staff, and shared on the 20th for our graduates and families to enjoy together.

Given this framework, we would like to give graduating students and parents an opportunity to share their creative ideas. Our graduation committee has been working on this all year but would value the feedback from their classmates. The link below will take you to a survey to share your thoughts. Students will need to be logged in using their .rvschools account so their response and name can be recorded. We encourage families to fill it out together if you can.

Thank you for your feedback – we appreciate this is a difficult time for our graduates and their families and want to work with you to have a memorable celebration.

Ryan

Mrs. Stachniak is keeping in shape running stairs with her son! It looks like she has her hands full. Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations to our RVSA Award football award recipients. The football team had a historic season and it is evidenced in the major award haul. Congratulations guys!

With the limit on gatherings of over 15 people, our extracurricular awards are going to be delivered creatively this week from the coaches! We're missing our students and look forward to connecting with the delivery of the awards.
Our photography students are rocking their first two weeks of at-home learning. Thanks for sharing your amazing work!
Art students continue to impress with their at-home work. Thanks to Ms. Tschritter for sharing! (A prize to whoever guesses which one is my 6-year-old son Lewis'!)
