A highlight for me every week is gathering the information to share in the Charger Connects. My weeks are filled with a variety of ups and downs, but a guaranteed positive is collecting all of the great things happening in the school and sharing it with our community.
Over the past few years, the first week of December has seen us host a 'Celebration of Learning" where staff and students displayed work that had been prepared for the event. This year, we added a second parent teacher interview night as we felt the relationships formed between student, staff, and parent earlier in the semester would better help students find success.
Instead of bringing everyone into the school at a busy time of the year, we treat the Charger Connects as a weekly celebration of learning. We hope you look at it the same way and enjoy the ping in your inbox when it arrives on Friday.
Have a great long weekend and see everyone Tuesday morning!
Ryan
Final rehearsals are in progress for our production of the Little Mermaid. If you haven't purchased tickets yet, follow this link and do it now!
To read more about the show, check out the story at this link! Looking forward to seeing our students dazzle on stage!
A big shout out to our very own Tristan Dyck on being recognized by Airdrie Life magazine as an awesome kid. Tristan is a wonderfully talented student who treats those around her with respect. We see it everyday and it is awesome to share this awesome kids story with others. Congrats Tristan!
Our gr. 11 students were privileged to spend Wednesday's Flex class in the theater with Alberta Works performing a timely play. The four actors on stage used theatrical performance to showcase some very common workplace issues faced by employees. Making OH & S approachable and fun isn't always easy but they pulled it off. Many of our kids are getting jobs and knowing more about what is and isn't appropriate at work will help them navigate this new world. Thanks Mrs. Smith for arranging this.
Congratulations to our September Student of the Month recipient Madison. A great representative of BCHS, Madison is a kind friend, thoughtful student, and positive contributor to our school. Look for October's recipient in next week's Charger Connects.
Gr. 10 Science students were learning about the cohesive and adhesive properties of water by trying to fit as many drops of water on a penny as possible. The winning group had 59 drops! Thanks for sharing Mr. Netzl!
Zoe is a passionate student at BCHS and one of her passions is helping those less fortunate in other parts of the world at Christmas time. Through this, Zoe headed up the shoebox initiative that saw over 150 shoebox's packed for kids around the world. Great job to Zoe and her team!
Thursday was twin day at school and Mr. Kirk and Noah 'accidentally' fell into it! Great style on both counts. Nice catch Ms. Dahl!
An eery calm fell over the Mr. Horne's room this week during a lab - kids once more putting their theory to practice in a practical way. Thanks for sharing Mr. Horne.
More incredible work from our photography class. Reminds us of a time when it wasn't -20 and snowy!
Our gr. 9 math students are exploring spatial reasoning using tangrams. Great to see them exercise their hands on learning in a very real way! Thanks for the share Mrs. Wegiel!
Airdrie is hosting the 2020 Alberta Winter Games from Feb 14 - 17, 2020. Michelle Carr, the volunteer coordinator for the games, presented to our school council last night and they are in need of volunteers. We are asking our community to spread the word as Bert Church is the largest host site for the games. If you or anyone you know is interested in helping out please contact Michelle at volunteers@airdrie2020.com.
Our English 20-1 students used art to connect the poetry from Macbeth in class. Stunning images emerged as students made critical connections between what they 'see' and what they 'read'. Thanks for sharing Mr. Bonner!
Thanks to everyone who braved the weather to come out to our post secondary evening on Wednesday night. With numerous institutions attending, it was a great chance for our community to understand more about options at post secondary. Thanks Mrs. Smith for organizing!
