From the Principal's Desk
by Ryan Reed

Our Sr. Girls Soccer team was victorious in zones this week, only allowing 1 goal to be scored on them in 3 games. It was an exciting day for our girls and our coaches.

One reason I would like to highlight this is to recognize the coaches who volunteer their time at Bert Church. Currently we have three volleyball teams, one cross country team, one football team, and one soccer team operating at the school. This week saw us play volleyball at home on Wednesday night, Football on Friday against Springbank, soccer all day Thursday in Cochrane, cross country in Okotoks on Tuesday and Medicine Hat on Saturday. Countless hours are spent by staff leading these ventures and they wouldn't happen without this commitment.

On top of our staff, we also have valuable community members contributing their time to working with kids. These community coaches are passionate about coaching as well as working with kids. Combining the enthusiasm these coaches have for the sports they coach with their passion for working with kids makes a winning formula. Thanks to our community coaches for the hours you put into the kids at BCHS.

Good luck to our football team in the RVS semifinals tonight against Springbank (4:00 PM, Ed Eggerer), our volleyball teams as they head out to Olds, St. Martin, and Bishop McNally, and our Cross Country athletes competing in Medicine Hat on Saturday. Make Bert Church proud!

Have a great weekend,

Ryan

Science 14 students were busy identifying metals with a flame test! Looks like fun!
Kids these days don't just read on their phones. Our gr. 9 ELA students were enjoying some time to silently read.
Project Jack and Jill is a tremendous local story of giving back to the community. If you know of a grad in 2020 who could benefit from this, please follow the link to their homepage. Thanks to Mike and Lori for their work making Airdrie a better place for teens!

Foods 20/30 students got busy this week making canapes (a fancy type of hors d'œuvre). They were both eye-catching and delicious. Thanks for sharing kids!
Our football team competed hard last Friday against perennial powerhouse Cochrane. Both teams entered the game 5-0 in league play but the Cobras came out victorious with a 21-3 victory. The game was a tight affair deep into the 3rd quarter with the physical Cobras inflicting their will on the Chargers in the 4th. With the loss, the Chargers ended the regular season 5-1 and host the Springbank Phoenix today at 4:00 PM for the right to play in the RVS Football Championship next weekend. Good luck Chargers!
Congrats to the Sr. Girls soccer team on their dominant performance en route to taking home the Tier II South Central Zone title on Thursday. The girls allowed 1 goal in 4 contests and brought home the banner. Next up is divisional playdowns where they go in as the #3 seed. First up is #2 ranked Cochrane on Tuesday, Oct 23rd in Cochrane at 4:00 PM. Good luck girls!
Bert Church volleyball fans were treated to a terrific night of action on Wednesday as the Chargers hosted the WH Croxford Cavaliers. The boys team won in 4 sets with a splendid 4th set victory while the girls dropped a spirited affair in 3 sets.

We look forward to our Sr. Girls games this week against Springbank (Mon, 6:00 PM) and George McDougall (Wed, 6:00 PM).

Go Chargers!
This year the Mechanics Training Centre is joining with our community partner Cam Clark Ford in the “WE Scare Hunger” campaign to fight hunger in our community. We are collecting canned goods (along with other non perishables) October 1-31 and building mountains for each of the classes and our customers/staff.  Last year Ford Canada in partnership with their local schools collected 377,650 lbs of food and hope to collect more this year.  We invite you to join us to help fill a Ford truck with food that will help supply the Airdrie Food Bank with much needed resources for our community!
