On Thursday night we honoured both current and past Chargers at our annual academic awards. It was an inspiring night seeing so many of our students achieve in a variety of disciplines. What struck me once again are the numerous opportunities that students at Bert Church have to connect with different passion areas. In a seemingly endless stream of presentations, students came up for excelling in culinary arts, mechanics, sciences, performing arts, languages, humanities, and more. This doesn't include the students in our school who also excel in extra curricular's!
Thanks to the parents, staff, and students for making this all possible and congratulations on your successes.
Have a great weekend
Ryan
Students in ELA 20-1 completed a self portrait with a reflection this week. Below is an excerpt from one reflection and 3 example portraits. Amazing work and creativity by the students. Thanks for sharing Mr. Bonner.
"As an artist I was ecstatic when hearing our next project would be a self-portrait, and as a surrealist I knew exactly how to incorporate symbolism into my project…The painting is predominantly red and blue, these colors are to represent two of my most prominent states of being. The red is to represent passion; I am a very passionate and outspoken person…The blue is to represent the other side of my emotional spectrum” (Samina).
On Thursday night, we celebrated our Academic Award recipients for the 2018.19 school year. Congratulations to all of the recipients on a job well done and thank you for your commitment to BCHS!
School spirit was on display this Friday as staff and students repped their favourite jerseys for Jersey Day. Surprisingly, there were a lot of Flames jerseys worn the day after their opening night loss against the Avalanche, which puts them 2 points behind the Oilers in the playoff chase. Thanks to our leadership students for promoting the event to mark the start of hockey season.
Our Chemistry 30 students once again found themselves putting their knowledge to work with a redox lab. Learning comes alive when the theory learned is tested in lab situations. Thanks for sharing Mrs. King!
Not being left out, the Science 9 crew were studying density with a lab in Mr. Verhees class. Thanks for sharing!
Project Jack and Jill is a tremendous local story of giving back to the community. If you know of a grad in 2020 who could benefit from this, please follow the link to their homepage. Thanks to Mike and Lori for their work making Airdrie a better place for teens!
Our drama students took a day trip to Theater Calgary and were a wonderful audience, leading one of the cast members to comment that they were the best audience yet! Getting to see performances in this setting only inspires the kids more. Thanks Mr. Goodyear!
Our Art 20/30 students travelled to the Glenbow Museum this week to be inspired by the work of the artists there. Students came back with new ideas and techniques gleaned from their trip. Thanks Mrs. Tschritter!
Our Math 20-2 students working on logic puzzles. They needed to figure out a strategy to always win….and they enjoyed playing with blocks! Thanks to Mrs. Stachniak for sharing!
Our leadership students do a tremendous job of keeping the hallway displays filled with amazing displays. Thanks for caring about our school enough to put your valuable time into the project!
