Principal's Message
1. Student Registration Processes
This past week was an exciting week for our student registration process. On Tuesday, students in gr. 9 - 11 received their course pick sheets for next year. These forms are due back on Monday, March 15th so we can begin the registration process Tuesday.
Today, students received more information on some of the specialty programs offered below.
as well as Bert Church Specialized programs such as:
- Criminology (gr. 11)
- Health Sciences Career Advanced Program (CAP) - gr. 10
- Lacrosse Specific PE 10 (Gr. 10)
- Social Justice 35 (Gr. 12)
- Entrepreneurship 30 (Gr. 11/12)
We encourage families to sit down with the course pick sheet over the weekend and converse about different plans moving forward. The more accurate these course selections are, the better our timetable can reflect the needs of the students.
One reminder is that students will have counsellors and administration helping them register for these courses next week. The pick sheet is the guide but there will be an adult helping with the process. As well, we know marks do change as the year progresses and that timetable changes in the fall are inevitable. This is just the first step in the planning process.

3. Principal Advisory Committee
We are welcoming back our Principal Advisory Committee on Thursday, March 18th at lunch. The PAC is a group of students who volunteer to meet once a month with me to discuss how to make BCHS a better place for kids. Hearing the student's voice is a good way to spend a lunch hour! If students are interested, they may sign up in the office this week.
4. Badminton Begins
We are excited to offer singles badminton to our gr. 9 - 12 students starting Tuesday after school. Students will be asked to register on Monday as attendance must be taken for each session. Badminton will be in-house games only as inter-school play is still not allowed. We will run the badminton season until March 31st and re-evaluate other sports after spring break. Thank you to Mr. Horne and Ms. Marter for your willingness to run badminton this year!
5. Chill Zone
Starting on Monday, March 15th, our success coach and school counsellors will be offering a group for students who need to talk. Chill Zone will be hosted in the Learning Commons, where students can distance and follow health protocols. This space gives students a place to connect with adults and peers and help decompress or talk. Thanks to Ms. Tole and our counsellors for supporting our students in this way. Students may sign up for Chill zone next week!
6. Student Fee Collection
As of February 28th, 2021, all school fees are now due. Please go to this link to either register or login to access your account. For detailed information go to the BCHS web page under "Our School", "School Fees" to learn more about fee payment options and eligibility of fee waivers.
Please contact Mrs. Twomey at ctwomey@rockyview.ab.ca or call 403 948 3800 ext 7006 if you have any questions or concerns relating to your account or require a copy of your invoice. We appreciate your prompt attention to submitting fees.
7. Graduation Scenarios
Our graduation committee is meeting today to review different plans for our graduation ceremony. We will be flexible with ceremony plans to accommodate public health measures. Specifically, we will develop plans in the event we can have no in-person attendees in the gym, limited capacity in the gym, or regular capacity. As with most things these days, it is dependent on health measures in place and ability to respond to them quickly. We are grateful for our group of students and staff working hard to plan a memorable 2021 graduation ceremony.
Thank you for your support and have a great weekend,
Ryan
