Some reminders around being prepared and ready to write diplomas:

  • Students writing Diplomas are reminder to bring in ID (BCHS ID/Driver's License and so on).
  • Students need to bring in writing utensils that are relevant to the diploma they are writing (pen, calculator, etc.). A gentle reminder also, that supervisors will clear calculators before students enter the exam room.
  • Students are not permitted to bring in hats, backpacks, or technology (absolutely no wearable technology and cell phones are to be left in lockers).
  • Students are permitted to bring in water and snacks (please make sure snacks are in a clear, large ziploc bag.

Important Reassessment Reminders and Updates:

Semester 2- Last Day of Classes: The last day of regular classes for grades 9-12 is Thursday, Jan. 16, 2024.

From Jan. 17-Jan. 27 students will be writing exams and accessing re-assessment opportunities to improve their grades. A few guidelines for students during this time are:

Grade 9 Students:

Failing a class?  Attendance is required to work with your teacher to improve your grade and prepare for PATs.

Passing all your courses?  Attendance is optional but encouraged. Students may follow the same schedule for the reassessment period. Students have opportunity to, in consultation with their classroom teacher to be reassessed or complete 2 assessments that have substantial impact on their overall grade. Students may come and use this time to review for their PATs with their teacher, complete reassessment, work on current or past course content in Math and ELA, or finish up project/course work in their options. Once again, this is optional for students to attend if they are comfortable with their mark and have worked hard to get there.

Exams/PATs?  Students in gr. 9 currently enrolled in Social Studies, Science or both, will write Provincial Achievement Tests on Thursday, January 23th, and Friday, January 24th.

Grade 10/11 Students:

Failing a class?  Attendance is required to work with your teacher to improve your grade.

Passing all your courses?  Attendance is optional but encouraged. Students may follow the same schedule for the reassessment period and complete significant assessment(s) that could raise their grades. Students may come and use this time to complete reassessment or finish up a project-course work in their options. Once again, this is optional for students to attend if they are comfortable with their mark and have worked hard to get there.

Exams? Students will not have formal final exams during the reassessment week. Students in different curricular areas have been assessed in various ways throughout the semester. If one of the 'significant assessments' is defined as a an tests/exam students will have opportunity to write replacement assessment to improve their grades. Students should arrange this with their teacher and know the type and amount of assessments needed for each class.

Grade 12 Students

Students registered in diploma courses will follow the diploma exam schedule during this time. Reassessment opportunities will be available for students, but the priority should be preparing for their diploma exam. As the Government of Alberta has stated that these exams will count for     30% of the student's final grade.

Semester 2

The first day of Semester 2 is on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
